Splash in a Tropical Waterfall – Romantic Things to Do in Bali #1

Tegenungan and Kembar Waterfalls - Romantic Things to Do in Bali, Indonesia

Tegenungan and Kembar Waterfalls

Bali has a number of waterfalls all over the island. Tegenungan (on the right) is a major waterfall close to the main tourist areas of the south. It’s powerful and beautiful, but other tourists and vendor stalls dominate the area. They’re nice falls to visit, but can be less than romantic. For a romantic time, visit one of the smaller and more remote waterfall, like Kembar falls (on the left), near Sambangan village.

Sunset on Forbidden Beach near Tanah Lot - Romantic Things to Do in Bali, Indonesia

Sunset on Forbidden Beach near Tanah Lot

The sunsets at Tanah Lot and Uluwatu temples are legendary. They are spectacular, magical, and romantic. But they are also extremely popular. Beware the romance-killing crowds. If a romantic sunset is your priority, you’ll have to escape the crowds by sacrificing the best viewing spots. It just won’t be exactly like the postcard, but your view will still be fantastic.

At Uluwatu, there’s a paved cliff-top walkway that stretches for about a mile. There are many places along the path to get a bit of privacy and still enjoy a beautiful sunset over the dramatic cliffs.

At Tanah Lot, the best sunset view is on the “forbidden” beach under Batu Balong temple. We have a full article on beating the sunset crowds at Tanah Lot here.

Batuan Resto in Idyllic Balinese Countryside

The rustic charm of the Balinese countryside is as beautiful and romantic as the beaches. Batuan Resto is one of our favorite rural restaurants. The food is delicious and the setting is breathtaking. The restaurant is set in the middle of rice paddies, and next to a traditional village.

The grounds are like a tropical garden. Batuan Resto is secluded, serene, and very romantic. Best of all, they offer private dining is thatched roof Gazebos surrounded by water.

Soar together over Bali’s gorgeous beaches. For a romantic time, a tandem parasail is the ticket. Most of the parasailing on Bali is single rides that take off and land from the beach. These are fun, but they’re only for single riders and go by really fast. A tandem parasail lasts much longer and allows you to enjoy the gorgeous views together.

Seafood Dinner on the Sand – Jimbaran Bay

Jimbaran Bay is famous for its seafood dinners, served right on the beach. Eating here is one of the most popular things to do in Bali – and for good reason. The natural setting is gorgeous with spectacular sunsets, the sea breeze, and the crashing waves.

There is an astonishing array of seafood, that couldn’t be any fresher. Most of it is caught daily by the local fishermen. Sharing shellfish makes for the most tactile, sensuous, and romantic dinner.

Enjoying the Beach on Horseback

Romantic horse rides are available at many of Bali’s beaches. Just make sure to book a private ride not a group ride. Also ask specifically how much time will be actually spent on the beach. Avoid stables far from the beach. If they’re too removed, most of the ride time will be wasted in transit.

Secluded Jatiluwih Rice Terraces

Bali has some amazing rice terraces. Hiking them is one of the great things to do in Bali, and it can be very romantic too. These terraces have an incredible and inspiring history, but they are also a dreamy and romantic setting for a lover’s stroll.

Tegalalang terraces are beautiful and the most accessible, but they are also the most crowded. The terraces of Jatiluwih have few visitors and are the best bet for a romantic hike.
